Questions
If it is not here, ask us. Nothing about buying or selling metal should require you to read between the lines.
Which product you buy is entirely up to you, and there is no right answer. Every bullion and coin product we carry comes from a well respected government mint or a reputable institution. In general we point investors toward the most liquid items — the most commonly bought and sold — that also carry low premiums over spot and tight spreads between the buy and sell price.
For items we hold in stock, your price is locked when you place the order, guaranteed by credit card. Payment must reach us within one business day of the lock or the order is cancelled. If the market falls and your payment has not arrived on time, you are liable for the market loss we incur — see our market loss policy below.
For items we do not hold in stock, we give a price estimate and the price is not locked until payment is received. Where the locked price comes in higher than the estimate we require cleared funds before releasing the metal. Where it comes in lower, we mail a check for the difference along with your order.
Once you have a confirmation from Sovereign Gold & Silver Exchange that an order is live, the price is locked and the transaction cannot be cancelled — only offset at our current ask price. Any deficit between the price we sold at and the offsetting purchase price is your responsibility if the item is cancelled or returned, plus a $35.00 cancellation fee.
The same applies in reverse when you sell to us and we have issued a confirmation number. Any market gain on a cancellation remains the property of Sovereign Gold & Silver Exchange.
Yes. The charge depends on the total value in the package, which drives our insurance cover, and on its weight. Around 95% of packages ship for between $15 and $40, with expedited shipping available for an additional fee. The charge covers our cost of packing, shipping and insuring the metal — nothing more.
If the items are in stock we ship within one to two business days of your funds clearing. Wire transfers received after midday are treated as received the following business day. From there, your order typically takes one to seven days to reach you.
By a carrier of our choosing, always insured and always signature required. Anything that happens in transit is covered by our policy, and if a package is lost or damaged it is our job to pursue the claim. Once a claim is filed we will either re-ship or refund, at our discretion.
Cover does not survive instructions you give the carrier. If you have asked for parcels to be left unattended, redirected to a neighbour or building manager, or sent to a third party mailbox or drop-off location, your package will not be covered. For large quantities we will discuss other methods, including armored delivery.
Cashier's checks, wire transfers, personal checks and cash. We do not accept cash in excess of $10,000. Checks can be dropped at the store, mailed to us, or deposited directly into our incoming payment account.
Orders paid by cashier's or personal check are held until the check clears, which runs from 3 to 17 days — so for anything over $10,000 we strongly recommend a wire, which carries no holding period. For wiring instructions, call 9548343429.
Sales tax on bullion depends on the state the order ships to and, in some states, on the size and type of the purchase. We apply whatever the destination requires at checkout, and it is shown before you confirm.
We are not tax advisers. For how a purchase sits within your own affairs, speak to your accountant.
