Precious Metals IRA

Retirement

Metal you can hold,
inside your IRA.

A self‑directed IRA can hold gold, silver, platinum and palladium. Bars and coins, bought at the counter price, funded from the retirement account you already have.

Paper denominated assets — traditional and Roth IRAs, 401ks — lose value when government fiscal and monetary policy are not sound. A percentage held in physical metal can compensate for those paper losses and improve how the whole portfolio performs.

The process

Three steps

Whichever legal framework you prefer, getting physical metal into a 401k or an IRA runs the same way.

  1. 01

    Open

Open or create a custodian account, by either of the two routes below.

  2. 02

    Fund

Fund the account, usually from an existing 401k or IRA.

  3. 03

    Buy

Buy your precious metals from Sovereign Gold & Silver Exchange at the price on the board.

Two ways in

There are two ways to get physical metal into a retirement account. Both have their benefits. Which one suits you better is your decision to make.

01

Self‑directed trust or LLC

Establish a self‑directed 401k trust or an LLC where you are the trustee or the owner, and fund it from existing 401ks or IRAs. The metal is in your control. There may be annual fees payable to local, state or federal government. Once it is funded, you simply contact us to buy your precious metals.

02

Self‑directed custodian IRA

Establish a self‑directed 401k or IRA at an existing custodian, fund it, and buy metal. It must be stored in an IRA‑approved depository, with yearly management and storage fees. Fill out the buy direction paperwork naming Sovereign Gold & Silver Exchange as the dealer, and we coordinate the sale and the shipment to the depository.
